Let's be honest, we all love Target! From it's home decor to its cute clothes, Target has all we could want and more. But, we bet you didn't know these hidden secrets about your favorite store!
There may be a reason the Red Card is so important.
Some stores give out wonderful rewards to their team members for selling Red Cards. They do this because we get in so much trouble if we are either caught not offering one or haven’t gotten any despite asking. My store manager said the entire guest/team member interaction should be based around theRed Card.
Target may be mesmerizing, but its employees take your wandering to mean something completely different.
While you may find it fun to aimlessly meander around Target looking at things you don’t need, it’s a sign to the employees that you could be stealing. If someone asks you if you need help, they’re trying to find out if you seem suspicious.
The employees can’t chase after you if you’re trying to steal.
Unless you stay in the store, we can’t really do stuff if you’re trying to steal something.
Target is actually really good at price matching.
Target is really good about price matching ads without a problem. If you buy something from Target and see it cheaper elsewhere, we can price match it. It’s smart and frugal and it means Target is still making money.
Female employees may get treated differently by customers.
Customers tend to treat me differently since I am female. Men seem to be more aggressive and feel I need to be challenged because I am perceived as weak and women try to get more discounts because they try to relate to me.
Getting hired at Target takes some serious hard work and a long process.
There is a huge process to get hired. I put in my application then had a phone interview. Once they liked me enough to call me into the store, I had four interviews in total with a standard team member, a team lead, the Human Resources leader and finally the HR director. There were thirty people interviewed for my cashier position and only four got hired.
There are numerous ways to actually save money at Target.
The best ways to save at Target are to buy items that give you gift cards when you purchase X amount of them. Get the RedCard; it’s 5% on top of all coupons. Cut manufacturer coupons because they can add up too and check Cartwheel daily.
Facebook could be a source of savings too!
Also another great way to save money is to follow Target coupons on Facebook. And they usually know when there are glitches in the system. For example, they were doing a buy 3 get a $20 gift card but the system was giving the gift card with only 1.
There’s a secret Target store you don’t know about.
Target treats its employees really well. There is an entire store for employees online and we can buy a bunch of stuff. We also got free Fitbits a few months back.
Don’t worry, the cashiers aren’t judging you.
The cashiers really don’t care what you buy, nor are we going to judge you on it. I treat tampons the same way- scan them and put them in the bag. It’s not like they’re anything out of the ordinary.
Black Friday is actually fairly calm after the first rush.
I worked 2 Black Fridays for Target and was really surprised at how quickly it dies down. The first hour is really busy, but after that it’s like a normal holiday day. The second year I worked, they sent a bunch of the cashiers home early.
Employees sometimes get the shaft when it comes to hours.
Target has a sales-based scheduling system. If a specific day has low projected sales, they will only have 3-4 sales floor employees the whole day. After Christmas, most full time employees only have around 13-15 hours a week.
Don’t be fooled, the Target employees hate having to shove the RedCard down your throat as much as you hate their asking.
I absolutely hate it. It’s not me. I don’t like shoving it down people’s throats and honestly, I refuse to push it too hard.
There have been some weird things stolen from Target.
People try to pull off some weird things at Target. There once was a person who tried stealing a full-sized couch. I don’t know why they thought they’d be able to or what was going through their head.
Target employees don’t get a huge discount like you might think.
As a Target employee, I only get a 10% discount. But I also have a Red Card. I do have to pay for my own uniform but I can wear just about any red shirt.
Their breaks are few to come by.
Depending on what Target you work in, we get breaks every four hours we work.
Many employees work different jobs.
You may see the same person making your coffee and stocking shelves because some employees are cross-trained. You can pick up shifts for other employees or get more hours if you’re part time by working Cafe/Starbucks and Floor/Cashier.
Target isn’t always the classiest.
There are some pretty weird things that go down in Target. I’m pretty sure I watched a guy get a handie in our cafe once.
They accept many forms of payment.
Target does in fact accept food stamps.
