There are a lot of things to keep up with in the world, it can be hard to remember to keep up with the discovery’s science is making. Some that may make you think “wow, I can’t believe what amazing discoveries these are” to “wow, I can’t believe someone spent time and money on that study.”
Here are a list of 31 of the most recent scientific discoveries.
1. Prize Chickens
A 2016 study showed that chickens are shallow. They preferred to be handled by what they considered to be “beautiful” humans.
2. Don’t Drink The Water
When Singaporean scientists observed Chinese soft-shelf turtles dunking their heads into puddles, but not drinking the water, they figured they should jump on this magnificent discovery. What they found was these turtles secrete urea through their mouths and rinse it with water. A.K.A they were peeing through their mouth.
3. Down To The Core
In 1960, Richard Feynman claimed that since the Earth’s core is denser than its surface, the core has a higher gravitational potential, making time pass slower. In 2016, his theory was confirmed. Meaning the Earth’s core is two and a half years younger than its crust. This also means the core of the sun is 39, 000 years younger than its surface.
4. On The Straight And Narrow
Dung beetles always move in a straight line because they navigate their path via The Milky Way Galaxy.
5. The Chemistry is Electric
Along with color and scent, flowers use tiny electric fields to attract pollinating insects. Bees detect these fields with the tiny hairs on their bodies. They pick up a static charge that bends the hairs and directs them to the flowers.

6. The Ninja Lantern Shark
There is a Ninja Lantern Shark currently swimming in the ocean. It was discovered by scientist in 2010, and gets its name because of its all black skin that faintly glows. To complete the look it has iridescent eyeballs, and teeth that are almost translucent.
7. How To Succeed In Farm Business
Researchers in the UK have found that cows with names produce more than 3.4 percent more milk than those without. The study claims, like humans, cows who are relaxed, happier, and given more one-on-one attention “work” better.
8. How Big Is Your Bacteria?
There is a bacteria so large that you can see it without a microscope. It is .17 of millimetre in diameter, and its chains look like pearls. It was found living on sulfur-rich seafloor sediments off the coast of Namibia, giving the name Thiomargarita namibiensis, which translates to “sulfur pearl of Namibia”.
9. In A Galaxy Far, Far Away
The universe that we know and love only amounts to 4% of the universe as a whole, and 3.6% of that is intergalactic gas. So, what have we learned about this uncharted territory? 22% of it is dark matter, and 74% is dark energy. So… nothing.
10. Save A Tree
A 2016 study in Finland, used laser scanners to observe the daily movement of birch trees. There findings were that the trees droop at night, then perk up during the day. So, make sure to be quiet when wandering at night, trees need sleep too.

11. Sing Me A Song
Songbirds sing shorter and repeat tunes to teach their young how to sing.
12. Is That A Frog?
Thought to be baby frogs of different species, Michrohyla nepenthicola was discovered to it’s own species in 2010. It is among the tiniest vertebrates in the world.
13. They Have A Type
85% of humans secrete a chemical that signals their blood type. The problem is mosquitoes can detect this to find their victims. If you want to know if you’re more vulnerable to them find out your blood type. They prefer type O to type A.
14. Messing With The Wrong Dolphin
In 2012, a group of microbiologist found that dolphins have complex hierarchies, like humans, and are capable of forming enemies and alliances with each other.
15. The Deeper The Voice
A 2011 study, revealed men with raspy voices to have a lower sperm count compared to men with high pitched voices. The reason being goes back to evolution, men with low sperm counts would need another way to attract a female mate.

Drosera magnifica is a carnivorous plant in the jungles of Brazil. It can get up to 5 feet tall, and secretes a sticky substance to capture its prey. It was discovered in a picture someone posted on facebook.
17. Attack Of The Lizard Clones
Lecerta rostombekovi is one of the few reptilian species that are made up exclusively females that are asexual. This means every individual has the same genetic make-up.
18. Around The Earth In A Century
In 2016, an asteroid was discovered to be orbiting the Earth. It is nothing to worry about, because it has been orbiting our planet for a century and will continue to do so.
19. The Smell Of Hate

25. Life After Death
Microbiologists at the University of Washington have discovered that genes in the tissues of recently deceased mice, and zebrafish remained alive up to four days after the animals death. The real discovery though is that some of these genes contained known cancer markers. Which helps explain the higher risk of cancer for those who have had a liver transplant from a deceased person.
