Five people trapped on the same stretch of coastline over two days are saved by the same person. Who could our hero be? Youd expect it to be a seasoned lifeguard, but it was actually an 8 year old boy who was out kayaking.
Meet Steffan Williams, the 8 year-old whose heroic deeds saved five people who were stranded on a particular rough stretch of coastline over the course of two days.
Williams was out kayaking on August 29th when he saw three tourists huddled together on a patch of rock. Thinking quickly, he grabbed his rubber dinghy and escorted the tourists back to shore. The family gave the boy 10$ reward.
They were really grateful. I havent spent it yet. Williams told the New York Post
His heroism was put to the test not even two days later, when on September 1st, he spotted two teenage boys trapped on the same patch of rock, whistling and yelling to get his attention. He told his mother about them, who insisted they get the lifeguard team to handle this situation (Williams father Huw is on the lifeguard team). The team collected the boys on their boat and brought them back safely.
They were going back to their campsite and got trapped by the tide. Williams explained.
He added: In August last year there were three fatalities on one day, the New Quay boat went to a case just south of here where someone swimming was swept out to sea.
Steffan Williams has been fascinated with being a lifeguard ever since he was told stories by his grandfather about lifeboat crews. He plans to join the local lifeguard crew when he turns 17, the required age. Until then, hes helping raise money for the lifeguard crew by selling handmade candles in jars filled with seashells.
It just goes to show that heroes can be any age, shape, or size. Saving five lives in the span of two days, Steffan Williams’s courage is proof that even the youngest folk can show exceptional feats of bravery. Here’s hoping this young man continues to inspire us!
