Everything We’re Looking Forward To About Marvel’s Moon Knight Ahead Of The Series Premiere On Disney+

By Zach Brown
March 25, 2022

It’s no secret Marvel Studios is a force to be reckoned with in the entertainment industry. On the big screen, they have released 27 films since the year 2008 and all of them, aside from a few duds, have been smash hits culminating in nearly $25 billion in box office revenue. With the owner of Marvel Studios, Disney, entering the world of streaming, many characters who hadn’t received the opportunity to shine on the big screen got their chance on the popular streaming service, Disney+.

Disney+ burst onto the horizon of Marvel Cinematic Universe fans by introducing four different shows in 2021. WandaVision gave lesser-known characters, Wanda Maximoff and Vision a whole new depth to their characters and turned them into household names even for casual MCU fans. The Falcon and The Winter Soldier, although a step down from Disney+’s lead-off hit, helped pass the shield to rising character Sam Wilson aka Falcon and build more onto the character arc of fan-favorite, Bucky Barnes. Loki completed the redemption arc of the aforementioned villain turned anti-hero and introduced fans to the concept of the multiverse. And Hawkeye was about Hawkeye!

Marvel Studios is looking to kick off 2022 with a bang by introducing a brand new character to their universe, Moon Knight, on March 30th streaming on Disney+. Here’s everything we know so far and what we’re looking forward to seeing in the show!

“Fist Of Khonshu”

Moon Knight follows the story of Marc Spector, played by Oscar Isaac, known for his popular roles in Ex Machina, Dune, and another Disney property, Star Wars. Marc Spector was a heavyweight boxer turned marine turned mercenary. During a mission gone wrong in Sudan, Marc Spector was left to die; however, he was revived by an Egyptian God, Khonsu. Khonsu wants Spector to be the “Moon’s Knight,” his namesake, and protect the innocent using the skills he gained through his life of violence.

As you can tell from the trailer, our protagonist doesn’t exactly come across as a stone-cold killer set on ridding the world of whatever evils plague it. This is because in a plotline I’m very excited to see in the show, Spector developed dissociative identity disorder. The character we predominantly see in the trailer is actually Steven Grant, an apparently very jumpy billionaire. We haven’t seen a hero have to tackle multiple personalities in any Marvel property and I’m sure Isaac’s performance will rise to the occasion!

They seem to have found a very interesting plot for the show but what really drew me in is speculation of Moon Knight being “the MCU’s most mature, violent, and dark outing yet.” I personally didn’t understand the complaints of Marvel’s films and Disney+ shows being “too light” as I thought they had enjoyable aspects for all audiences. With that being said, I loved the Marvel Netflix shows, especially Daredevil, and certainly won’t complain about Disney going further in that direction with new characters. Clearly, a character battling multiple personalities is going to be intriguing to an older audience and I certainly wouldn’t mind a little more violence from my heroes, especially “Marvel’s Batman.”
