The beauty of Love is it can strike anytime and anywhere. Here are some of the cutest ‘how I met the one’ stories from people in love.
So the Cubs had just won the World Series for the first time in 108 years and 5 million people swarmed the streets of downtown the day of the parade to celebrate.
A little tipsy, I run into a guy in the crowd, literally run into him, as in I trip all over him and nearly knock him over. I look up at him and say without thinking, “you’re hot” and he looks at me and says “you’re beautiful” and before I can process he kisses me, in the middle of the sea of blue sports fans we just start making out like no ones watching.
After sobering up a bit, he asks me on a date. I agree. We talk, and it turns out we have a lot in common, we really hit it off. Now, we are just a couple weeks away from our one year anniversary. I found my best friend and the love of my life that day.

A friend of ours was married and found out he had cancer. His wife left him because she didn’t want to put up with all the sadness that followed his life.
A friend of his with really good insurance suggested they get married just for the medical benefits for him. After a while it just clicked that they actually loved each other very much and stayed married even after he went into remission and are now one of the coolest couples we know.

Sitting on a train travelling back home from London, I was behind a large group of people who were on their way home from their friend’s wedding.
One of them asked how the friend met their spouse and I just happened to over hear there incredible story.
Apparently their friend had been on a flight from London to Australia to go travelling for a few months – she didn’t have a full itinerary planned, but roughly knew what she was doing. She was traveling alone, but her seat mate struck up a conversation. They had a great time, and found out they’d even studied the same subject at university.
It was a connecting flight, they parted ways when they landed in Hong Kong. However, when they boarded the next flight from Hong Kong, they found they were again seated next to each other.
Upon landing in Australia, the guy was supposed to go on to New Zealand, but they both decided to ditch their plans, and travel together. They’ve been together ever since.

An air force doctor told me about about the time when she was in a combat zone and needed air support.
She said the pilot who answered her call and picked her up had a really soothing voice so she went out of her way to find him again and thank him for his help. Well, they ended up getting married and have a kid together now.

She had a boy who was brilliant but never worked hard enough on the subject and ended failing her class as a result.
Next year the teacher seated him next to a pretty, very smart girl. You bet he worked his as_ off to impress her. They’re now married with two kids.

My mother was an elementary school teacher who assigned a class project to write a letter to people in the military to be delivered randomly. My dad was in the navy and didn’t get much mail, so when “extra” randomly assigned mail came in, he would sometimes get it. Turns out, my dad got my mom’s letter and decided to write back. Always blows my mind when I think about it.

A girl was helping her friend (also female) talk to some guy on tinder. They talked with him and set up a date for her. Come the right time the girl who was supposed to be meeting him backed out.
The girl who was helping originally thought he was too cute to let go, so she went herself and sat at a table near the guy and pretended that she was also being stood up and they got to talking.
“The rest is history”. Wink.

My grandparents met on New Years Eve on the subway in New York City. My grandfather was an immigrant from Denmark, and he was seriously considering returning home at the time. My grandmother moved up from the south because she hated it there. My grandfather saw her and thought “I want to go on a date with her.” My grandmother saw him and thought “That’s the guy I’m going to marry.”
My grandfather asked for directions to the ferry (he already knew). They wound up talking. My grandfather ditched his relatives to go back to my grandmother’s apartment. I don’t think anything happened because her roommate’s cooking gave him food poisoning. The next day he convinced her to kiss him for his father’s birthday (he hated his father at the time). When he left she got an atlas to try to figure out where he was from.
A few weeks later her dad died and she had to go home. She called him to say she wouldn’t see him for a little while. He decided that if, after only a few weeks, he was so important to her she had to tell him she was going away, then she was the one. When she came back to NY he proposed. They got married three months after meeting. They had four children and were happily married for 20 years until she died of cancer. By all accounts they never fought and were in love until she died.

This is the story of how my parents got together and stayed together.
My mother has always been a an academic star from a young age. My father was certainly not very academic types but was a hard worker. My dad was from a difficult background, him and his sister were in foster care since they were young. They were also physically abused by their foster mother for 12 years. My parents were friends since they were children and took each other to the debs (prom).
A few months after debs they started hooking up. One of these hookups resulted in me! My mother was 17 and my father was 16 at the time. She was in her first year of college and was doing very well. My father was after recently moved to a new foster home with a much nicer guardian. He had a plan to drop out as soon as he got a job.
When they learned my mom was pregnant it was obviously a bombshell. My mother has been very open with me in her considerations of aborting me before she told my father, as she thought she’d be doing it on her own and on minimum wage. She and my father had a talk and decided they would keep me and decided right there to be in a relationship. They already were dating anyway.
My mother, during her first year of college, gave birth to me. Both my parents still lived separately that summer. My mother decided to
keep going to college even though it was 3 hours away and my 17 year old father took me to live with him and his foster parents. He stayed on in school, as he wanted a backup plan in case his idea for his own landscaping company failed, all this while raising a baby. My mother would travel down every weekend to see me. She said those were the hardest years of her life.
As I grew up they presented me with every opportunity they knew of. I was involved in various sports clubs, I played piano since I was 4 and my father even learned basic French and Irish so he could help me with my homework because he never had any help. This is the same guy who hated everything to do with school and still struggles with basic maths. They have since told me they often didn’t eat, as all these things cost so much and they were barely stable back then.
My mother completed her degree in anthropology and has been in good jobs ever since. My father completed school even though he hated it and immediately went to work as a farmhand, eventually building his own landscaping company from the ground.
I am now 20 years old and my parents have provided everything for me. I also have 3 younger siblings aged 11, 8 and 5. My parents’ new friends are always shocked when they find out about their much older daughter and calculate my and my parents’ ages in their heads.
My parents are still madly in love. They have really good jobs and a great social circle. You couldn’t meet two people who are more different and yet they somehow make it work. They broke every stereotype possible when it comes to unplanned teenage pregnancy and I can’t be more proud of them.

My Brother went through a divorce, got custody of the kids and was single for two years, doing the regular soccer mom/dad thing.
When his son was in 5th grade he went to parent-teacher conference twice to confer with his teacher. One day, after the schools out, his son comes home with a note from his teacher. It said if you are interested in a relationship, please meet me at the school near the flag pole at 9 pm. Sounds creepy right? But he went anyway, she was a hot babe. He gets to the school and she is parked by the flag pole in her Jeep. She had gone out and purchased a yellow strobe light to make sure he would find her in that empty parking lot at 9pm that evening.
Well, they have been married for over 25 years now.

In my late teens, I had the typical row with my parents and found a (female) friend who had just kicked out her boyfriend. She needed a roommate and I needed a place to stay. Nothing going on between us and I slept on the couch. It was the perfect scenario for both of us.
She had a chihuahua. The dog seemed to know the place well, so much so that she’d leave the front door of the apartment slightly open so he could run in and out by himself.
One day, while I was sitting on the floor reading, the dog came tearing into the house, chased by a cat. They both ran into the bedroom, under the bed, out again, around the kitchen, across the living room and back outside again. My roommate and I looked at one another, eyes wide open.
Over time it became clear that the dog and cat were friends. They took turns chasing one another. They’d chase, wrestle, eat together from the dog’s food bowl, and drink from the same water bowl.
Eventually, we met the cat’s owner and became friends. The three of us would hang out together; dinner, movies, etc. The ladies would tell me about their boyfriend troubles, and I’d tell them about my girlfriends. We were just really good friends… until I finally moved out.
Shortly after the cat lady and I started dating.
After we’d been dating for almost a year I was ready, and I thought she was too, so I popped the question. Well, She panicked, cried, and said no. I was bummed, but I knew she had issues about the whole marriage thing – she had been forced into marriage earlier by her mother and ended up divorced after less than a year.
However, I did try again. Three more times, actually. She refused the second and third time too. Fourth time’s the charm, right? Well, she said yes! Then she changed her mind and said no again a week later. It almost destroyed me.
We had plenty of time to talk about this and she did a great job of letting me know she wasn’t turning me down, just the idea of marriage. She let me know – and I believed her – that she’d still love to be with me, but didn’t want to get married. After the fourth time, though, I couldn’t do it again. I told her that I’d be there if she ever changed her mind, but she was going to have to ask.
A few years ago, 27 years after the last time I asked her, she asked me to marry her. We’ve been happily unmarried for almost 30 years and happily married for about 3 years now.

I was a graduate teaching assistant. My officemate left for a class and dropped his checkbook on the way. I had the same class so I picked it up to give to him.
When I walked into class he was on the other side of the room.
Me to him: ‘I have your checkbook’
Him to me: ‘Throw it to me’
So I threw it to him and it sailed across the room, far away from him. He walked to the back of the room to pick it up and a snarky girl, couple of rows away says ‘Boy, are you a lousy shot.’ Awkward silence.
I saw her again later that day. A couple of weeks later I wanted to go to a concert and the only one I could think of who might be interested was this snarky girl. In a moment of weakness, she said ‘yes.’
I am an old retired guy now and our fiftieth anniversary is next year.

One afternoon I got bored and put an ad up on Yahoo Personals (this was 2001). Some guy got bored and responded to it. We got to talking and it turned out that even though we lived in different towns and went to different high schools we knew some of the same people. In fact, his sister, Kerry, and my friend Patrick dated for awhile.
What makes this sort of adorable is, at one point Patrick wanted to set me up with him. “You’d LOVE Kerri’s brother. He’s so much like you it’s crazy.” I turned down that offer because at the time I did not like blind dates.
Kerri’s brother, aka the guy I met on Yahoo, and I celebrated our 15th wedding anniversary in April.

One day, my grandmother was sleeping at her best friend’s house. Her best friend had a brother, who was doing his military service, and was supposed to come back two weeks later, so both of the girls decided my grandmother would sleep in her brother’s bed.
Turns out he was already at home, in his bed, and when she went into that bed she woke him up, he said something like ” Ho. Hello!”. What’s funny is that only a few months later, they got married, and had my mother within one year.

My mom and dad worked at a juvenile detention center together. My mom was (and is) a major nerd and my dad was a jock and they were both right out of college when they met.
Apparently my dad had a reputation for sleeping around with dumb girls and being kind of a douche, but when he was around my mom he got really quiet and shy because he was intimidated by her intelligence. My mom didnt like him very much but one day he brought her flowers and asked her out. She said yes, just to give him a chance, then they started dating.
A few years into their relationship she saw him leaving her best friends house and got really upset and started crying and yelling at him. He drove away feeling really guilty not able to explain himself. When my mom confronted her friend about what he was doing there, her friend explained that my dad was talking to her because he felt like he wasnt good enough for my mom because she was so much smarter/organized/disciplined than he was and how he felt guilty about how many girls he had slept with beforehand.
They got married a few months later and had me 3 years into their marriage. They’re still together after 24 years.

Everybody knows this story in our music department. A very cute female student (who had been a piano major) joined the organ performance class I was teaching and fell for the most talented guy in the group.
They started playing organ duets by the end of the 2nd semester and got married soon after graduation. Everyone in the department liked them and supported their relationship throughout.

My grandparents were set up by their best friends. They put it off for a while because they did not initially want to meet. My grandfather did not like his friend’s girlfriend, and my grandmother did not like her friend’s boyfriend.
After a while they met and became one of those couples that truly loved each other and see nothing but good in each other. In the end, their children and their best friend’s children became best friends and still talk to this day.

Just a little backstory first: my dad died over 5 years ago and in an attempt to feel closer to him my mother got deeply into spirituality.
So one day about three years back, she got back from visiting her “psychic friend”. This friend had told her that my dad will place a new, loving man to take care of her “on her path”. Just sounded like classic “idk what to say so I’ll make up something to make you feel better”. Evidently she did feel better, so I was supportive about it.
That same week, she was painting the garden fence when an old friend was passing by on his evening walk, and stopped on the pathway of the gate for a chat. Lo and behold, they decide to meet for drinks one night and have been happily together ever since, and he truly is a lovely man.
I still don’t believe the whole psychic thing, but it’s interesting how coincidences work out.

We have two neighbourhood friends who met each other when they sat next to each other on a 3 hour flight, exchanged info as they were both arriving in their home city, and found out they live within 10 minutes of each other.
They dated for a few years and got married. Now they’ve been married for 20some years with 2 kids and a seemingly happy life.

Two of my regulars at the gym come in wearing matching outfits for their daily workouts. In the week when her husband was out with the flu, I went to talk to the girl. She told me they actually had met in a gym, some other gym.
They spent weeks catching each other eyes and waving hello before she got fed up and went up to him. She said This is ridiculous! I see you everyday and dont know your name. Im ____ and, in her words, he took her hand and never let go.
They are crazy in love and always wait to start their workouts until the other one reaches the gym.

My ex-boyfriend’s mum was talking to a dude in a ghost chatroom, and had been for most of that year. While chatting she suddenly complained about some neighbours stupid dog barking, and how it wouldn’t shut up. Turns out it was this dude’s dog and they lived two houses away from each other.

My mom’s sister was asked out on a date, and my grandpa said she could only go if my mom went too (aunt was 15 and my mom was 13). So this guy gets his best friend (my dad) to double date.
My mom hates my dad, but my aunt and her guy hit it off. They start dating, and the four of them hang out quite a bit. About a year later, my dad asks my mom out again, now he had grown on her, so she says yes. They date for a few years, and when my mom is 17, he asks her to marry him. She says no.
They continue to date. A year after that, when shes 18, he asks her to marry him again. This time she says yes. My aunt and her guy are still together, and also get engaged. Then they have a double wedding!
My parents just celebrated their 36th anniversary. My uncle passed away 6 years ago, but my aunt hasnt dated anyone since. She says he was the love of her life. My mom recently went to a wedding at the same chapel they got married at, and the chapel still has the newspaper article written about the double wedding hanging in their vestibule.

I live in Toronto and in 2016 I went to Okeechobee Music Festival. I get out of my car and the person in front of us immediately asks if we want to camp with each other. So my friend and I say why not. He asks the group on the other side of his car as well. Everyone joined up and it was awesome, we had an amazing weekend. After the festival we all keep in touch with a group chat for the following year.
Okeechobee 2017 comes around and we all plan to camp together again. This time the group had grown with people inviting friends. One of the guys brought his sister. The first night of the festival we were watching Cold War Kids together, I saw her dancing and couldn’t take my eyes off her. The weekend goes by. On Sunday I was watching a set with a group of people and afterwards her brother was going to a different set than I was. I assumed she’d be going too, so I thought that would be about the last time I saw her, but she said she was going to come with me instead.
I knew if I was going to do something this was the time. We were sitting in the grass waiting, and our eyes caught each other, so I just went for it and tried to kiss her. She kissed me back. We spent the rest of the day just the two of us. It was the most perfect day ever. After the festival she went back to Maryland and me to Toronto. I again thought I may never see her again. But not even a week later I bought a plane tickets to see her.
It’s kind of crazy what all things that had to happen for us to meet. My flight to the festival was delayed in 2016, then I stopped for ice and food right before going in. Then my wristband was broken so I had to go get it replaced before going into the festival. All these moments led to us meeting those other people we hung out last year with. Then I meet her the following year.

I met my fiance by offering her my umbrella when it was raining, and we walked through Washington square park at night together.

Two of my high school teachers. The woodshop teacher and my algebra teacher – her tire went flat about a mile away from school, and he stopped to help her change it, without knowing who she was.
Once the tire was fixed they got talking, realizing they taught at the same school. And so it began.
