Dating is a very nerve-racking experience. It’s probably best to approach every date with no expectations whatsoever and to just allow whatever good, bad or ugly encounter to be one for the books.

“I didn’t realize it was a triple date, or even a date, until I got there. The entire time they played a 90’s board game where you use an electronic phone to find out which dream boy has a crush on you.
Then we made egg rolls with some sort of infrared turntable thing.
Then he showed me a machine that his dad invented, which jerks cows off in a revolutionary way.
Then his mom dropped me off in her minivan.
I was 16 and mortified.”

“I had a guy take me to a ballet once because he knew that I was a dancer who had to quit due to an injury. It was such a considerate and thoughtful date because he had no interest whatsoever in dance but he wanted to make me happy. He ended up falling asleep and snoring so loudly that I had to wake him up because the people seated in front of us complained.”

“I met a guy at a party my freshman year of college. We knew each other vaguely through new friends. He was going to go to ‘Sheetz’, and so I asked to tag along, since I wanted to go, but not alone. He seemed really sweet and nice, so that was a bonus.
The whole walk there, we talked about our siblings and high school and just clicked. Cue me realizing I don’t have my debit card as we get there. So he buys me Mac and cheese. I seriously couldn’t get over how cute this guy was, we walked to his place and stayed up talking until we both fell asleep. He offered to sleep on the floor, but I shared the bed. Not one creepy advance all night, so I felt safe.
That was September of 2013. I’m currently chilling at his apartment until he gets off work so we can go have late lunch. Sadly, we’re not engaged yet because we want to graduate first and move closer together (we live at opposite ends of Pennsylvania), but we have it all planned out and we’re both super excited to get married.”

“Three years ago, before we were a couple, my significant other and I were driving back from my parents house after letting their dogs out and feeding them. I was angry because the dogs had been alone all day due to my co-dog sitter not showing up and not telling me until 10 pm that he had forgotten about the dogs.
I was in an absolute rage. It was about 1 am and we were going down a back road with some construction. Out of nowhere my significant other pulls over and tells me to ‘Get out.’
‘What?!’
‘No one’s around. Go kick over traffic cones until you feel better.’
I got out of the car, channeled my all of anger into my legs, kicked over a single cone and felt all my frustration melt away. I asked him to be my boyfriend the next day.”

“Back in high school, I wasn’t allowed to have a boyfriend so I would sneak out at 2 am and we would go on ‘dates’ to the beach on the weekend. He would bring a blanket and pillow and we’d just lay there and look at the stars all night and then go for a stroll as the sun was coming up.”

“We went to a wetlands centre because I love birds, especially waterfowl. I hand fed a mute swan and it was surprisingly gentle given its size.
It’s my most memorable date because that was the day I realized how much I really love my boyfriend.”

“This guy I went on a date with didn’t want to pay for my food. This is totally fine with me as long as we can split the bill in half, but he didn’t want to pay for his own food either because he wanted to save his money to buy ‘grass’ later.
Unfortunately, I’ll never forget that date.”

“My first date with my boyfriend was like something out of a movie. He lived down in Chicago and worked at a place called ‘Eataly’ so he knew all about the food and the wine and fed me the best goddamn meal I’ve ever had in my life. I literally cried at the table it was so good.
Afterwards we walked through the city to a theater and watched the ‘Book of Mormon’ and I laughed so hard I nearly peed myself.
Afterwards we went back to Eataly and got dessert and coffee, again some of the best I’ve ever had.
It was the most romantic night of my life.
He asked me how well he did. I told him he was getting laid that night, and he did.”

“It was a couple weeks ago. He and I went to the park, climbed a tree and sat up there for a while. After that, we headed to the bookstore to show each other all the books we liked. We spent a good chunk of time there.
After that, we decided to take ‘the long way’ home. We went speeding down the freeway with the music blasting. He has a convertible, so I was throwing my arms into the wind and laughing. I felt young and free and a little wild. I felt more like myself than I had in a long time.
We didn’t end up going home. He took me to the highest spot in the city on a whim.
It was breathtaking. We were the only two people up there, and you could see absolutely everything. The brightest lights downtown, the scattered houses in the heights, the dark spot down the middle where the river cuts through. We were far enough front of the city that the stars were mostly all visible.
There was something really incredible about it, seeing all those lights knit together with him beside me, and nobody knowing where we were. We sat up there and talked about anything and everything. I felt this…really powerful sense of peace with him. I wasn’t worried about anything. It was a moment I could just breathe. A pocket of time just for the two of us. Just ours.
I’ve been dating him for two months, officially for a few weeks now. We’ve had a lot of adventures but this one just sticks out to me.”

“It was my first date with my current boyfriend. We went to a Vietnamese restaurant and sat at a communal table. The two older men next to us said we were a cute couple. I blushed and my boyfriend started up a conversation with these men. They were really funny and interesting. It was really great because I love talking to strangers and that day I found out that my boyfriend did too. It Was a 10 out of 10 date and from now on I always sit at communal tables.”

“I wish this was more positive, cute, or even funny. But, One date that always sticks out to me, because it was so cringe-worthy was a simple date to a restaurant. As soon as we were seated our waiter comes up and you could tell this jerk was mad at the world. Some backstory, I am not anything special. My date was about my height (5’9”) quiet, bald, normal. He was hilarious in a witty way.
Long story short, before our meals are served, the waiter informed us both that I was too good looking to be on a date with my date and that I should be dating someone ‘on my level’ and walked away.
My date’s face dropped, I excused myself to find the manager. I tell the story, the waiter admits to it and we obviously left after I knew the guy was fired. I lost touch with the guy, he was sweet but we did not date for much longer. I really hope he is married with kids now and a beautiful wife.”

I’m torn between two dates:
1. When my date, a shoe company representative, at a fine restaurant, on our first (and only) date, took their shoe off (dirty and smelly) mid-meal, put it on the tablecloth in front of me, to excitedly demonstrate its features…
Or
2. When a very inebriated woman joined my date and I for the whole meal, loudly proclaiming she was a virgin the whole time and hitting on my date. (Plus the restaurant manager was useless).”

“It was my first date with my current boyfriend. We met in a bar a few days prior to the date. I gave him my number for work reasons. I worked as a membership coordinator at the chamber of commerce. He was in the process of opening a brewery in town so of course he needed to be a chamber member. He called me the Monday after we met so I could come look at the brewery and we could talk about the benefits of him being a chamber member.
We ended up going to lunch that same day. When we left lunch he asked if I wanted to go to dinner that night. About an hour after I got home from dinner he called and asked if I wanted to go to a comedy show with him and some friends that same night. So we ended up having 3 dates in one day.”

“I was set up on a blind double date by my best friend. We met the boys at their house and went out to a bar. There was zero attraction on my side to the roommate, but I tried to make the best out of things.
We went back to their house, did a bit of hot tubbing and my friend went off to one of their rooms.
My date went to take a shower, so I laid down on their couch and drifted off.
I woke up to him sitting next to me, touching himself watching adult movies on a giant T.V. Then he noticed my movement, and we made eye contact.
I thought he’d stop, but no – he keeping tugging on his junk for all that it was worth – maintaining focused eye contact.
I left the room and locked myself in the bathroom for the rest of the night.”
