You’ve Been Served, Miley!
Miley Cyrus and her younger sister Brandi have found themselves in the doghouse after a 2014 incident in which Brandi’s dog, a German Shepherd named Feather, bit one of Brandi’s neighbors, a woman by the name of Yolande Ngom. Since Miley was the one footing the bill for Brandi’s swanky NYC condo, she was also named in the lawsuit that Yolande filed against Brandi.
During the court proceedings, Miley claimed she had no knowledge of the details pertaining to the case, but a video obtained by the prosecution might prove otherwise.
A Video From Her Past
Previously, Miley had stated that she hadn’t even met the dog before the incident, didn’t know anything about the dog’s behavior, and hadn’t even been to the condo where her sister was living until after the incident.
The prosecution rooted through the pop star’s social media accounts, however, and found video from 2010, just a few years before the incident, in which Miley introduced her sister’s dog to her fans and talked about how “obsessed” she was with the animal. Ruh-roh, it looks like Miley got herself caught in a lie.
A Sudden Remembrance
After the video of her interacting with Feather the dog was introduced in court, Miley rushed to amend her original testimony to rectify the “misremembered” portions, explaining, “I do not, and cannot, remember every specific video that I have made.”
The second deposition is what these particular legal shenanigans are all about. According to documents obtained by The Blast, Miley desperately wants to keep that video from being released to the public. Yolande’s legal team has ripped this video to shreds, claiming that Miley’s sudden memory refresh is “utterly implausible,” and that this second deposition video proves that Miley’s original testimony was “willfully false.”
Now Miley and her team are fighting back, arguing that Miley’s reputation could possibly be hurt by its release. After all, she is “the subject of media and tabloid speculating concerning even irrelevant minutiae details of her life,” according to the documents provided to the court. Miley’s team has asked the judge to seal the video deposition records to protect her reputation, though Yolande’s team has argued that it is unfair for Miley to use her celebrity to try and influence the judge to keep herself from being embarrassed by the “implausibility of her own testimony.” Not that it matters, anyway, since…
All Settled Now
Miley settled the case in early August of 2018. To be fair, the case went on so long that the dog in question died before anything was even settled. Now we will forever be left wondering just what the deposition tape would have revealed. It must have been pretty bad for Miley to just throw money at Yolande in order to make the whole ordeal go away. Even though Miley wasn’t the one at fault for the whole dog bite incident, she should know better than to lie to the court. Or, our bad, “misremember” key facts to the court.
