1. Short and sweet wedding vows
I knew I wanted to marry him from the beginning but I may have had that lingering “what if” voice pop up in my head. Then on my wedding day, we somehow ended up with a copy of his handwritten vows but no copy of mine.
The second we realized that and my cheeks started to flush, he grabbed his, crumpled them up, threw them over his shoulder, looked me in the eyes and said, “If you’re going to do it, I’m going to do it too, I won’t make you go through it alone. From that moment for the rest of our lives I will never doubt that I made the right decision in saying yes to him.

2. Impressive!
I threw up all over his car on our third date (I was totally sober, not sure what happened), and instead of getting mad or upset, he pulled over, helped me clean up, drove me home, and told me not to cry.
Then when we got home, he helped me inside, and sat with my dad while I went off to change and clean up more. He didn’t leave until I came back out and he saw that I was going to be okay.
He impressed both my father and myself, and we’re married now.

3. Classic dad joke
She got me on the first date.
We had exactly one long pause in conversation at dinner. She put out a salt shaker and her knife and asked “What’s this?”
I was surprised and said I didn’t know.
“It’s a salt with a deadly weapon.
She swept me off my feet with a dad joke. We have been together for 10 years, married for 3 and we have a 7 month old daughter. I love her.

4. The run, fart, fall incident
Ohhhh… I love to say it’s when he helped me bury a beloved pet or when he picked me up after a traumatic event and took me for ice cream without being asked.
But honestly it was one funny incident
You see, he was embarrassed to fart in front of me. So one night, he felt one coming on, and tried to run from me to the other room. Well, the floor in the other room wasn’t carpeted so his feet went right out from under him and he landed on the floor, on his side, in the fetal position.
Then began silently laughing, then farting audibly at the same time.
And since his back was to me and his head obscured by the wall, all I could see was his butt trembling with laughter and farts.

5. Right by her side
We’d been dating for five months when I was in a terrible accident. My two boys (8/2) were fine but I was critical for days. He was at my bedside every minute he was able. He helped my Mom with the boys and even did the grocery shopping for them. That was 22 years ago and he’s still there by my side.

6. Never a dull moment
He was never 100% predictable. I did not like him and refused to talk to him for months because he was obnoxious, rude, and irreverent. Fortunately, we had class together and so were forced to interact. Over time I found that although he was rough and sarcastic, he was never unkind. He didn’t take himself seriously, but he did take his work and his future seriously. I had misjudged his mischievous brand of playfulness for obnoxiousness. One day I looked at him and found myself wondering about the woman he would marry, because she was bound to be a unique person, and smart to find and hold on to so much goodness. I think that’s when I fell in love with him.
Married 8 years now. He’s still annoying, but I love it and I’m never bored. I didn’t marry easy, but I married right. Life is so good.

7. Not even migraines can come between love!
Had my first migraine with her at my apartment. I told her a few times that I was useless for the rest of the day, and that if she wanted to go home, it was really ok. I encouraged it.
She sat with me through the whole thing, got my laundry that I had started before the migraine hit (while folding it all and putting it away), got some food in case I wanted to eat, and didn’t judge my gross puking.
Also didn’t judge for the random out of character things I was saying. Migraines are weird.

8. Supportive through it all
When I realized he saw my family as his family.
My brother graduated from Marine boot camp, and I wanted to be there. It was like 600 miles away, but we saved up so we could drive down.
At some point, I realized he wasn’t there for me. He was there for him, and for my brother. This wasn’t his girlfriend’s family event he was obligated to go to, this was him supporting someone he loved as well.

9. Nursing him back to life
She babied me when I came down with a nasty fever on one of our date nights. She sat by my side all night and dabbed a wet towel on my forehead. This was like 3-4 months into the relationship. I was in real pain but she made me feel ok.
We’re going on 3 years.

10. Were in this together
I was working an ok but low paying job (due to moving to her city without having a job lined up) and the used car I bought when I moved there had a transmission problem about 6 months after I bought it. There were two or three days that she had to get up a lot earlier and take me to work and come pick me (while the car was in the shop) and it wasn’t necessarily convenient for her. I remember at one point during those days I apologized for causing the inconvenience and she said something to the effect of it’s not a problem and that we were in this together.
Looking back, it’s something small but I’ve never forgotten it.

11. Found you!
We were in a foreign city and I got lost on the second day. I text him while he was in a class, and he somehow managed to find me despite my awful description of where I was.
He’s pretty good at accomplishing the near impossible. We’ve been married 5 years now.

12. Health issues are a serious matter
My mom hated all my boyfriends. Didn’t matter who. But when I brought my husband to meet her for the first time 9 years ago, she was pretty ‘blah’ until he started asking about my Type 1 Diabetes, and how to take care of it. What it entailed. None of the others ever asked, or cared.
After that, he just meshed really well into my family. It was like he was already part of it. We stayed together. But him caring enough about the t1 diabetes was major because IT IS a major part of who I am. If I’m not careful, or something happens… low blood sugar can kill me. Because he knows all my signs, he knows exactly when I need something. He even knows my insulin ratios.
We’ve been together 9 years, and married for 4.

13. The perfect date night
We were talking about what to do one weekend and I suggested we sit in our pyjamas, play video games and order pizza. Her response? “That’s my definition of the most perfect date ever.
That, and after my dad met her for the first time he said to me “She’s a lovely girl, I don’t know what she sees in you though.

14. Its the little things that count
When I was in the emergency room with severe stomach pains and had to have a vaginal exam, the doctor kept telling my significant other over and over again that he could leave (‘all the boyfriends and husbands do, it’s too awkward for you to have to see’) until finally he was like ‘my girlfriend is lying in a hospital bed right now, where else do you think I’d wanna be?’ He didn’t leave my side or let go of my hand the whole day that I was there.
It meant so much and it’s always reminded me he’s a cut above the rest. I think a lot of people might have stayed out of obligation, but he genuinely would not want to be anywhere else. I’ve never known someone as loyal and pure-hearted.

15. When the unexpected happens
Met during training for the Fire Dept. At first figured some captain had brought his daughter and forgot about her while my dad and I were teaching. Next day get told to show “that guy” how to run the controls for the Jaws. Went over to this firefighter and then she looked up and I couldn’t even speak. Just totally dumbfounded. Was expecting a guy and get met with these amazing blue eyes and stunning smile. Then came this little voice in my head that said, Oh, we are so screwed. She’s the one.”
Married for about two years now, she still won’t let it go.

16. Practice makes perfect. Also flourishes love!
We had only been dating about two months, hadn’t said I love you yet or anything. It was the middle of the afternoon. We had recently had sex and I was still laying in bed, he was standing by my bedroom window butt naked and smoking. He picked up my copy of Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire from the shelf by the window and flipped it open to a random page and began reading aloud.
After a paragraph or so he stopped and said, “I’m not very good at reading aloud, but sometimes I do it when I’m alone to practice for when I’m reading to my kids someday.” Then he continued reading.
In that moment he was the most beautiful and wonderful thing I’d ever seen. I knew I was all in at that point.

17. The birthday food poisoning
This was maybe a month into our relationship. We went out to a fancy dinner for his birthday and I got food poisoning. I spent the rest of the night in the fetal position, moaning about the shooting pain in my stomach and how I felt as though I was ruining his birthday. He reassured me that I wasn’t and never left my side. The last thought I had that night before falling asleep was that I knew I loved him.

18. Home is with you
The first time she came over (we were long distance) she came for the week and it was the most amazing, wonderful week I’ve ever had to the point where she was considering missing her flight and living over here with me but we both knew that was silly. At the airport, as I’m sending her off she looks up at me with big puppy dog eyes with tears in them and says
‘How can I go home when Home is with you?’
I held her extra tight until she had to go.

19. Learning how to drive on a date
I met him at 21 and the first time we went out I told him I didn’t have a license and had never driven a car before. He was surprised and got quiet, he then pulled into some parking lot, got out of the car and told me to get in the driver’s seat. He taught my how to drive right then and there. I instantly felt so safe with him.
March 15th will be 5 years together. I love him so much
I’ve also gotten my license and a car since then!

20. A game of chess while doing laundry
I had just ended my 8 year long marriage a few months prior and he was sweet and amazing at every moment of our dates…which was nice but I wasn’t exactly sure how genuine he was.
I was working two jobs at the time. One was a 4 day work week, 10-12 hours a day, and the other was a part time job that was about 6 hours a day, but both jobs required an hour commute each way. I had one day off a week, and that was the one day I was “allowed” to use the washer and dryer at the house I was renting a room in.
He asked if I’d like to go out that day and I apologized and said I’d have to stay home and do laundry/prepare my meals for my upcoming work week. Then he asked if he could come over (he lived an hour away), bring me food, and play chess with me while I did the laundry.
It blew me away. My ex husband did almost nothing around the house, and certainly never kept me company during most all of my cleaning/cooking. And he did not go out of his way for me, unless it was somehow on the way to what he was doing. I was practically speechless. I’ll never forget that wonderful afternoon we spent together. Going strong almost 2 years later and we just got our marriage license today!!

21. Love at first sight
Well there was a lot before and after this but: We were meeting at the park for a picnic lunch and he was meeting my dog for the first time. I saw him park from across the lawn and was watching him walk across the grass to meet us. My dog saw him and her ears perked up and she stood on her hind legs like she was excited and started pulling to go to him. She’d never seen him before. She usually didn’t pay much attention to strangers out in public. But she acted like he was her daddy right away. She’s been in love with him ever since. Well, we all have.

22. Not bluffing!
My significant other and I dated briefly (6 months) in high school, and reconnected again 22 years later. During the getting-to-know-you phase of catching up over a phone call, I was talking about all the things I’d learned about myself with regard to relationship preferences, what types of guys I like, not into sports and not really willing to fake it, etc. I told him one thing I loved is when someone is good at something and they own it. Confidence, but not arrogance. Most people have one or two skills that qualify. His response was, “Really? Because I know a lot about a lot of stuff, and I’m pretty good at most of it.”
Of course, I’m thinking this is crap.
8.5 years later, he’s still proving me wrong.

23. Laughter is the remedy
We were on our second or third date two weeks into “officially” dating and she made me laugh. Like a big belly laugh.
That may not seem like a big deal, but my major depressive disorder had really come into bloom like 3 years prior and I hadn’t laughed in all that time. Chuckled at most, I think. But she did something funny and I laughed until I cried and my sides hurt.
There was more after the fact that reaffirmed my decision, but that was the moment.”

24. That look of love
It was our 4th “date” and we went out of town to an off road event. It was a 4 hour drive and I suggested we ask and answer questions about ourselves, something neat that I found browsing Reddit. He was completely down with the idea. We were talking so much we missed our turn off twice, we finally made it to the hotel, sexy time happened and afterwards he immediately grabbed the room service menu to see what they had. We were starving as we hadn’t had dinner yet.
He turned and looked at me laying on the bed, ran his fingers through my hair and I swear I was the only human being that existed in the world. I thought to myself, “I love this man.” That’s when I knew he was different, that what we had was different and that he was the one, when he looked at me and it was as if there were only two people in this world, him and me. Two years later, we’re married and he hasn’t stopped looking at me with that tunnel vision.
