Visiting Brother
“Something really bizarre happened to me once. I was taking an afternoon nap after a short morning shift at work. I hardly ever nap, but I had plans to go out for late dinner with my girlfriend so I wanted to rest up.
I laid down on the couch and it was absolutely silent in my apartment. Suddenly my ears started ringing louder and louder, which nearly gave me a headache. It was keeping me from falling asleep so I sat up and looked for the TV remote for some background noise. I got the remote, aimed it at the TV, and sitting on the floor in front of the TV with his back to me, was my brother, Lee. Startled, I jumped up and said, ‘Hey, when’d you sneak in?!’
He didn’t move. I got a very strange feeling and there were goosebumps over my entire body. I had chills and this feeling like I was going to throw up. Without moving at all, I heard him say, ‘Everything is cool, man. Don’t worry about me, I’ll be fine.’
I was so confused and for some reason, I felt like I was going to vomit. I ran to the bathroom to puke but I only dry heaved for about 30 seconds. I went back out and Lee was gone. I started yelling, ‘Hey where’d you go?’ There was no sign of him.
I called him. No answer. Texted him. Waited for a response. I lay back down, but there was no way I was sleeping. I felt 100% better suddenly so I decided to go clean my car out so my girlfriend didn’t have to sit on Mcdonald’s bags. Suddenly my phone buzzed. It was my mom. Lee has been in a bad car accident a few hours ago and he was at the hospital. He died in the emergency room.”
Strange Lights
“When I was 12 I experienced something really creepy.
I woke up in the middle of the night terrified of my windows. My whole body was in complete fear mode and it told me to stay away from my windows. I wasn’t a kid to be afraid of the dark or anything, so my fear was super unusual.
I slowly got up out of bed and made my way to the foot of the stairs, which was one of the only places in the house away from any windows. There was a solid wood front door which I stood in front of. I looked up in the direction of my sleeping parents up on the second floor. I saw our little apricot poodle simply sitting and paying close attention at the top of the stairs. The lazy dog was never up at night.
Just then, a bluish white light poured out of the peephole in the front door and beamed its way onto the front stairs. I couldn’t handle the implications of the light streaming in from the peephole like that and ducked under the light and walked with my head down to my bed and closed my eyes under the covers.
In the morning, my mom’s friend said that on a talk radio station, people were calling in about seeing strange lights over the city that prior night.”
Intuitive Toddler
“Something super weird happened to me when I was a toddler.
Before my mom was born, my grandma had a miscarriage. Fast forward and my mom is carrying toddler me up the stairs, in which the wall is decorated with family pictures. I stop my mom in front of a picture of my grandma and tell my mom that it was a picture of my mom. She explains that it’s her mom and not mine, to which I replied that this other woman was my mom for a little bit at first.
A couple of months later I go running into my mom’s room at five in the morning to wake her up and tell her that I have to go visit my ‘mom’ today at the cemetery because it was her birthday. Toddler me had no way of knowing this, but I was right.
Nothing like that has happened since.”
Dancing Lights
10 years ago one of the most inexplicable things happened to me and my dad.
While I was living in Maine, my dad and I were talking out on the front porch one night. We were gazing at the full moon and stars when we both saw what we thought was an airplane approaching the airspace to the northeast. It was very noticeable as it had one bright, unblinking light. After drifting along at a steady pace, it suddenly accelerated and made fast, tight turns as if it was looking for something/someone in its area. It was performing zigzags and circles. Maybe it was trying to signal.
After another two minutes of this, it appeared to give up and shot away to the east like a shooting star. My father and I were stunned, as the movements that object made looked far too fluid and fast for any (known) man-made vehicle. Immediately we were both talking about UFOs as we both believe in extraterrestrial life. Our eyes were still looking towards the sky as we pondered when suddenly, from the south, the light came shooting towards the area it was at originally and proceeded to do its searching again.
We thought it was the same object until, from the east where the light first disappeared, the original aircraft comes speeding back into the vicinity. As it met up with the new aircraft, they both did what I can best describe as a ‘happy dance,’ bouncing and circling around each other over their reunion. They then both shot off to the east and disappeared just short of the ocean’s horizon. We never saw them again but it remains the most unexplainable thing I’ve ever seen.”
Jealous Ghost
Something really weird and unexplainable happened to me when I was In college. My then-boyfriend and I lived in an old house near campus. The house always kind of gave off a little bit of a creepy vibe, but nothing ominous. After living there about a year, I started seeing things out of the corner of my eye, things I couldn’t explain but would convince myself weren’t there. One day I was walking through the living room and could have SWORN I saw a youngish guy with long hair, wearing jeans and a bandana sitting on my couch. When I looked again, he was gone.
Shortly thereafter the boyfriend’s things started getting messed with. He’d left a stack of magazines on the bed while he went to shower. When he came back they were spread out on the bed. Not like the stack had just fallen over, but arranged in a grid. Another time in the shower, the water turned suddenly cold. He reached down to turn the hot water up only to find that the hot water was completely off. He started to feel creeped out, but I never got a bad feeling despite the things I’d seen. I joked that we had a ghost, the bandana hippie guy I saw on the couch, and he had a crush on me.
One night, my ex-boyfriend and I were cooking dinner together. He came up behind me at the stove and started kissing my neck. I joked, ‘Be careful, Jed (that’s what we’d started referring to the ‘ghost’ as) isn’t gonna like you doing that.’ He laughed and just said out loud, ‘Sorry Jed, you can’t have her. She’s mine.’
No sooner had the words gotten out of his mouth, there was a huge CRASH in the next room. We went into the living room to inspect and found that the glass door to our entertainment center is completely shattered. Pieces of glass were flung all over the room like the glass had been hit with something HARD.
After that, no more weird things happened. No more creepy feelings. No more odd occurrences.”
Premonition
“One of the most unexplainable things happened to me back in 2003 when I broke up with my ex-girlfriend. I gave her our black lab because I would be traveling and I didn’t see them again.
Six years later I was in a hotel in Jacksonville and had a recurring dream for four nights in a row. In the dream, I would walk into a white room and across it to a hallway that was on the other side. I would kneel down and call my black lab, whose name was Dallas. Dallas would scamper out of the hallway and run right past me. I’d call her again and she would turn around and come toward me and sit down in the unique manner in which she sat. The biggest issue was that Dallas was no longer black, she was white. Underneath the white fur were black roots and her eyes were sewn shut. But she was the beautiful dog. I loved her and I kissed her on the face. This dream repeated four nights in a row. On the fifth day, I decided to write my ex-girlfriend an email and told her the dream. She wrote me back and explained that Dallas had cancer and was euthanized five days ago. She said she thought Dallas always wondered what happened to me and wanted to visit me one last time. I bawled so hard and I’m nearly bawling now at the thought.”
Mysterious Visitor
“I was working in a 7-11, graveyard shift and I see all kinds of unexplainable things. But there’s one that stands out.
It was 2:00 a.m. and there were no customers. I was playing PvZ on my phone until this guy entered the store looking like he was running from someone. He told me that no matter what if someone asked for him, don’t tell them that he was hiding there. I told him okay. By this time I was so confused because he was holding a cage with two rats. Then he proceeded to get two sachets of Veet, a bag of Doritos, and toothpaste. He asked me if anybody was outside and I told him no. So he gave me 1000 pesos (around $25), told me to keep the change and then ran outside. I tried to give him his change still but I tripped so I decided just to keep it.
One day later, a policeman came to the store asking if an old guy came there. I told him yes. They asked me questions (what did he buy, what was with him when he was here, etc.), all of which I answered honestly. When they were leaving, I inquired about why they were looking for him and the policeman just smiled and then walked out the store.
When I got a copy of our local newspaper, I saw that the old guy had passed away.
Ever since then, I have no idea what he did and who he was running from.
When Your Car Has Your Back
“Something insane happened to me once when I was driving home a few years ago in a car that was only a year and a half old.
It was pretty late and the streets were completely empty. I stopped at a red light. The light turned green and I stepped on the gas a few times but the engine only revs and the car didn’t move. It sounded exactly like it would if my car was in park. I remember being annoyed and checking to see if the car was in park BUT NOPE, it was in drive.
Just then, I looked up and a HUGE truck ran the red right where I would have been making my left turn. The truck passed and my car once again drove correctly.”
A Quiet Warning
“One of the strangest things happened to me when I was sleeping over at friend’s small apartment in the mid-’80s. I was on the floor in a sleeping bag between his bed and his little sister’s bed. In the middle of the night I woke up suddenly, but not alarmed. I was just suddenly very clearly wide awake. A quiet man’s voice in my head said, ‘You should get up and move.’ I don’t remember even questioning it or it seeming weird. So I got up over my bag to the foot of my friend’s bed and we went back to sleep.
Sometime later, in the early morning, there was this huge crash and we all sat up, alarmed. My friend’s cat had jumped up and somehow taken down a shelf holding this gigantic wooden 70’s style stereo set: the kind with boxy wooden speakers, a turntable, cassette, and eight-tracks, etc. This thing probably weighed 60-80 lbs of gear total. It fell maybe four feet and landed right where my head would have been.
Mike yelled my name and rolled over because didn’t see me down there beside him and looked around panicky-like. Of course, I was down by his feet. We just stared for a second and soaked in the implications.”
Seeing Grandpa
“My dad went through something nuts. When he was about 15 he was playing cards and listening to the radio in the living room of his mom’s house. There was a knock on the door and he opened it to see his grandfather stumbled over the porch railing, clearly plastered. This was pretty common since his grandpa would get wasted and stumble over looking for something to eat. So, he told his mother, ‘Mom, your dad’s here!’ and went back to playing cards. His mom finished washing dishes and was wiping her hands on a towel as she looked on her porch.
‘Who did you say was here?’
Your dad.’
‘There’s no one outside… Are you sure?’
‘Yes, he was there a minute ago. He must have left.’
So, she shut the door and went back into the kitchen.
About a minute later she got a call telling her that her phone number was found in the wallet of a man found dead near the train tracks in Kentucky. They described the man and what he was carrying. She gasped and asked my dad again, ‘W_ho_ did you say was here?’
He was found dead a state over due to over drinking and severe dehydration.”
Disappearing Act
“Okay, to this day I have no idea what happened.
Me and my mom were outside a coffee shop and I noticed a large white bird in the sky. It was too high up to see it in detail but the way it was circling suggested it was a hawk or eagle. My mom noticed me looking up and commented how she’d never seen a white bird like that. We watched it for about 30 seconds and all of a sudden it vanished into thin air.
It creeped my mom out so much that she changes the subject whenever I mention it.”
The Laughing Woman
“One of the weirdest things I’ve ever seen happened when I was on the job one night.
I’m a firefighter paramedic in a large suburban city. My partner and I responded to a difficulty breathing call in some low-income high rises at about 2:00 a.m. one morning, which was not unusual. We got to the floor the call was on, the elevator opened, and immediately we heard this cackling laughter from down the hall. We start heading toward the apartment where the call came from and, of course, that was where the laughing was coming from. So we knocked and the laughing voice said to come in. We opened the door and there was a large, probable 300-pound woman sitting on a chair shaped like a high heeled, leopard print shoe in the middle of a pitch black apartment. The only light that was coming through the doorway from the hall. So we asked if there was a medical problem and the woman said she called because she couldn’t breathe. Mind you she is continuously laughing, and I mean she laughed through our entire interaction with her. So, we reluctantly headed inside.
I was writing so my partner began to assess her. Her vitals were good and her lungs sounded fine. I asked her why she was laughing, thinking it might be an asthma attack or an abnormal breathing pattern that just sounds like laughing. A female voice answered from out of darkness in the corner of the room. It startled us. My partner shone a pocket light toward the voice and there’s an even more obese woman lying on a bare mattress on the floor, eating a bowl of what looked like cooked beef with her bare hands. The beefeater says the woman on the shoe chair is, ‘Just actin’ a fool.’
So I asked the woman who called us if we could take her to the hospital. Before she could answer a door opened up at the end of the apartment hallway. Light briefly poured out and an unseen man’s voice yells at us to shut up. At this point, my partner and I are done. The woman on the shoe, still laughing mind you, said she didn’t want to go to the hospital. I have her sign off and started for the door. The kitchen door to the apartment was next to the exit door so my partner shone the hand light in there as we left because we were both on edge.
In the pitch black kitchen, there was a skinny person washing dishes in the sink. They didn’t even look up at us when the light shone into the room. We noped out of there, dragged the cot back to the elevator as fast as possible and tried to convince ourselves we didn’t just escape from theTwilight Zone. I’ve been in junkie houses before and I’ve seen some nasty stuff but nothing as surreal or weird as that.”
Creepy Corridors
“The creepiest thing happened right before my senior year in college started.
My friends, brothers, and I rented a house a couple blocks from campus. I had a summer class, and after it was over I got a text from my brother asking me to assemble some furniture for him. So I walk to our rental house, up the stairs and into his bedroom. 30 minutes that consisted of nothing but Led Zeppelin and me cursing at the furniture I was assembling go by without incident.
All of a sudden my instincts go crazy. I got this ominous feeling that I wasn’t alone and that I should have left immediately. I stopped the music and realized I could hear someone walking around downstairs. That was odd because none of my housemates were supposed to be in the house that day. So, I made the classic making the horror movie mistake and walked downstairs to see who was there. There was no one in sight, which was also odd.
So, I checked the entire house and went around closing and locking the door of every room that I searched. My search only confirmed that I was alone. My instincts were still screaming at me to leave despite knowing that I was alone in the house. I put those thoughts to the back of my mind went up to my brother’s room to continue assembling his furniture. I locked myself in my brother’s room just to put my mind at ease.
Another 30 minutes of Zepplin and cursing go by and I hear a door creak open. I thought that was odd since all the doors were locked and shut. So I walked out of my brother’s room and preceded to check every door in the house. There were all locked. Then it hit me. I didn’t have to open the door to the room I was working in so I could check the rest of the house. The door that opened was the locked door that separated me from the rest of the house. I calmly walked up the stairs, grabbed my school bag, and fully sprinted down the stairs and out the front door. When I closed and locked it behind me, I swore I heard a soft thud from something colliding with the front door from the other side.”
The Bar Hopper
“This crazy happened about seven or eight years ago.
My now ex-girlfriend tended bar in this weird little dumpy bar that was located out in the woods. It was a really odd location. One night, she was at work and she had forgotten something she needed. She called me to bring it to her.
It was a weeknight, and it was dead in there when I walked in. There were two people playing darts at the front of the building. The building itself was divided into two rooms, divided by a four-foot half wall. The front room — where the bar, pool tables, and dartboards were — was lit up. The back room had tables in it, and they used that area for parties or when the bar got really busy. It was essentially extra space.
No lights were on in that room, but it was illuminated by the light coming from the front room and the area where the restrooms were. Well, I decided since I was there, I’d have myself a drink before going back home. I sat at the end of the bar right next to the half wall that divided the two rooms.
I hadn’t even finished my drink when some motion caught my eye. I looked up and to my right and watched a shadow in the shape of a man – not ‘roughly’ in the shape of a man, mind you. It had a defined edge, distinguishable arms, legs, head, and torso. Looked exactly like a shadow you would cast onto a wall, except it was moving through the center of the room. This wasn’t a ‘corner-of-my-eye’ thing, either. I watched this thing walk through the room for a good three to four seconds. I turned to tell my then-girlfriend about it, turned back and it was gone. I had never seen anything like it, and haven’t since. I immediately looked to my left. Everyone who was in the building was all in the bar area and accounted for. I asked if anyone else was there. Nope.
I got up, and walked around the bar, into the back. Nobody. I thought it must have been something coming in through the window. The only window in that room was a sliding door to the side of the building – with no lights outside to explain it. I tried and tried to come up with ANY kind of logical explanation. I couldn’t and I still can’t.”
